Goal Is to Encourage Accountability and Transparency
Here is the newly revised list of financial penalties for elected and appointed Federal government officials who break the law or commit acts of malfeasance.
Starting a war under false pretenses: $500 for the first offense and $250 for all succeeding offenses.
Fines for casualties resulting from a war started under false pretenses: $50 each for the first 1,000 casualties and $35 each for all succeeding casualties. Note: No fines shall be imposed for any civilian casualties.
Lying to investigators or to grand juries about sexual encounters with interns of either sex: $35 for the first offense and $15 for all succeeding offenses in a single fiscal year. Note: a special sexual penetration fee of $10 may be imposed in some situations.
Using Government aircraft for personal trips with family and friends: 10 cents per mile flown and $10 for each day the aircraft is in use. Note: a surcharge of 50 cents per trip will be imposed for each set of golf clubs transported; leaving potato chip crumbs in cracks and crevices of aircraft seats could result in additional charges.
Lying to a grand jury while under oath: 75 cents per bona fide lie to a maximum penalty of $75.
Failure to respond appropriately to natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, floods and conflagrations: $75 for each occurrence in which fatalities exceed 100 persons to a maximum of 10 occurrences.
Exempt Activities:
Lying to the public via news conferences, speeches or nationally televised addresses.
Snatching citizens of other countries off the streets of foreign cities and transporting them to secret prisons to undergo “enhanced” interrogation.
Indefinitely imprisoning American citizens without charge.
