Helicopter Parents Seen Hovering Everywhere

Here is a roundup of the latest news about helicopter parents and their children:

Father Performs His Son’s Job during Grad School Stint
An unemployed Oak Brook Park, Illinois bartender will take over his son’s job as a quality assurance analyst for two years while the son earns an MBA degree. “I don’t have anything to do at the moment and it’s not that difficult a job. So me taking over just made a lot of sense,” said Robert Lazuras, 55. He will perform the analyst duties of his son, also named Robert, who is pursuing his MBA at Northwestern University. The elder Lazuras said that by stepping into his son’s shoes, his son will have an addtional two years of employment to show on his resume and the paychecks will continue to roll in. Lazuras said his son’s employer does not know about the arrangement. “My son and I look alike, except that he has a lot more hair, and it’s a big company with not that much supervision,” he said. “No one will notice, and if they do, I’ll just say I was out late partying and had too much to drink.”

Co-ed Freaks Out after Her Date’s Mother Tries to Rate Their Sex
Campus police forced a 45-year-old mother to leave a Boston University residence hall after she tried to observe her son and his date having sex. The mother, whose name was not released, hid in a closet in her son’s dorm room while he and his date had dinner and attended a movie. When the duo returned and began having sex, the mother, clipboard and flashlight in hand, crept from the closet in order to observe and rate the co-ed’s sexual performance. “Subject female noticed the mother’s presence in room and fled, with much screaming, to residence hall lounge,” the campus police report said. A bemused assistant dean for student housing said he was not surprised by the incident. “Helicopter parents are everywhere these days. Rating the sexual prowess of your son’s date? Sure, go for it,” he said.

Judge Rules Parents Can Be Present during Breast Enlargement Surgery
A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has ordered Inglewood Harbor Medical Center to permit the parents of a 22-year old woman to be present in the operating room during their daughter’s breast enlargement surgery. Judge Oliver Newton said it was “within the bounds of reasonableness” for Edmund and Janice Anderson and a physician of their choice to monitor the surgery by an unnamed physician. “Plaintiffs are correct in their assertion that the outcome of the surgery will have a significant impact on the emotional health, future spouse selection and career prospects of their daughter,” Judge Newton wrote in a 30-page opinion. “They have worked hard for more than two decades to engineer their daughter’s life for success and their petition is within the bounds of reasonableness.” A medical center spokesman, noting that “helicopter parents in the operating are worse than HIPPA inspectors”, said the possibility of an appeal was under study.
