Brush Clearing down at the Ranch Is Chicken Soup for the Soul

Dear Diary:
Cleared almost a quarter acre today. The last day for a while. Back to the grind tomorrow. Lord, I hate to leave. Just get settled in, then they yank you back.

Joe helped. Just about run his skinny ass into the ground this week. Heh, heh. Good for him. A body gets a little soft back in Washington. Too many donuts at the coffee cart. Suck in that gut, Joe Baby. You’re in the chainsaw big leagues now.

Still have to get Condi out here. See what she’s made of. Nothin’ wrong with women clearing brush. Every ranch in the country women are clearing brush right at this moment. Thousands of ‘em clearin’ brush with their men. Runnln’ chainsaws, just like their men. On a ranch, everybody pitches in to get the work done, including clearing brush. Lifeblood of the ranch, clearing brush.

Sort of a game we have, Condi and me. Always interestin’ to see what her latest excuse is. Forgot to bring her work clothes. Yeah, right. That’s gettin’ old, Girl. Better think up something new. She knows I’m on to her excuses. Just a matter of time until she breaks. Unless she’s gettin’ tired of being Madame Secretary. Heh, heh. That would bring her around, right quick like. Yes sir, Mr. President! Let’s go clear some brush, Mr. President! God, I love the power that comes with this job!

Broke a chain this morning, first pop out of the box. Hadn’t been at it more than ten minutes. Big ol’ tree shifted and the chain started draggin’. You know, like it does when you try to rush things. Twang! Twang! Scared the bejesus out of that red-headed Secret Service guy. Flame Thrower. I like that name. Fits him real well. Must of jumped six foot off the ground. Maybe even crapped his pants, he was so scared. They all thought the attack had begun, for sure. Got a good laugh out of that. They didn’t think it was that funny.

Lesson to be learned from that chain breaking. Don’t rush. Things get a little sticky, back off the pressure, shift a little, put the saw back into the cut. Just keep whacking away at ‘em. Rome didn’t wear down in a day.
